Kirk Resigns from the Work

March 3, 2001

"The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all that call upon Him in truth."

Dearest Brethren,

It is with a heavy heart that I tender this my resignation. It seems that I have arrived at an impasse, a place providing no obvious means of escape. I am unable to continue in my present contribution as a Leading Brother because of recent events.

First, I would like to clearly state my thanksgiving for the Lord’s work here and His working in my life through His ministry. I am thankful for brethren of like precious faith that are pilgrims on the journey.

Second, I would like to clearly state that I do not believe in infallible leadership or infallible gatherings unto Christ. There is only one infallible head, Lord and Savior of the body, Christ Jesus my Lord.

I believe that the Lord is calling for repentance as He walks in the midst of the candlesticks. He is calling for demonstrative clear turning to Himself. In the recent failure and subsequent call of accounting in David’s life I have seen preferential treatment that makes allowances and excuses. I have been called harsh and critical, "just like David", because I note these compromises. I have been asked not to question in writing George and Betty’s involvements in this sin. Shock and disgust have been expressed when I recommend a course of clearing these accusations or a definitive dealing with public concerns about George’s ego, David’s abusiveness and Betty’s meddling.

Whether real or imaginary, public accusations exist. The Bible says, that the elder must have "a good reputation with those outside the Assembly". It has been my desire to see demonstrative repentance of the obvious sinner (David) and demonstrative clearing of accusations to a good reputation (George and Betty). These desires have been met with opposition, and it is not good for the flock to be guided by divided leadership. Please know that I love you and harbor no grudges. I will continue in my fellowship here and I long for the Lord’s blessing upon you and this gathering.

Very sincerely yours in Christ,

Kirk
